- Visiting Quito and the Galápagos Islands is a mix of light to moderate physical activities. Quito is a city at high altitude: 9,350 ft: Walking tours may feel more strenuous than usual. Expect to walk on cobblestone streets, climb some steps, and navigate hilly terrain, especially in the historic center.
The flight from Quito to the Galápagos typically takes about 2.5 to 3 hours and includes a brief stop in Guayaquil. The Galapagos Islands are one hour behind mainland Ecuador.
On a Galápagos Islands Cruise, there are typically two daily excursions ashore. Most landings are “wet landings,” where you’ll step into shallow water. Daily activities include moderate hiking on uneven terrain, sandy beaches, and lava rocks. You may also choose to snorkel, swim and kayak. A variety of fitness levels are accommodated on visits ashore. You must be able to step from the ship into a small, motorized dinghy, and from the dinghy, into the water to go ashore, with assistance from ship’s crew. - Trip Price
